Vale Luke O'Toole

Wyoming Football Club has lost one of its favourite sons with the tragic death of Luke O’Toole in a boating accident on the Murray River on Saturday. The son of Life Member Bob O’Toole and nephew of one of our finest players in Frank O’Toole, Luke first played for the Club in our Under 7 team of 1979 and, apart from a six-year period in the early 2000s, went on to play a total of 36 seasons, the fifth most by any player in our club’s history.

During his junior career Luke won his team player of the year award on four occasions culminating with the Club Junior Player of the Year award in 1988. In his first year in senior football he won the 3rd Grade player of the year award and then moved up to the Club’s Premier League squad where he remained throughout the 1990s. After six seasons with The Entrance club he returned to Wyoming in 2008 where he played Over 35s and Over 45s including the 2023 and 2024 back-to-back premiership-winning O45 teams.

Throughout his playing career Luke played with passion and comittment but always with true sportsmanship and a smile on his face. There have been few more popular teammates in the many teams that he played with and he will be sorely missed.

Luke, who would have celebrated his 52nd yesterday, leaves behind a heartbroken family to which Wyoming FC extends its thoughts and condolences. His mother Louise; wife Sheridan and children Hollie, Toby, Kurtis and Ellie; sister Jodi and her family; Bob and his wife Robyn; Frank and his wife Ros.
