GAME #6
VS WYOMING: LOBSTERS 5
May 13, 2017

For the third week in a row we enjoyed the comfort of playing at home. Wyoming was at unbackable odds to win this one as we played against our fellow tiger team mates. It was a strong effort by both teams as they fought hard to find the goal while defending their own. It was the opposition that broke through first, but the team kept their heads up and soon found the equaliser. At the break it was all tied up with nothing splitting the teams. Again the teams went toe to toe at the recommencement of play. Goals were traded but the deadlock continued throughout the half. Once again in a seemingly deja vu moment from last week, a goal to the opposition in the dying minutes broke the deadlock without enough time to undo it.

The common training of the teams create a tough battle between them and we were very proud of the effort all the players put in. Oliver was given the award this week for his consistent effort in always being involved in the play when he was on the field.

GAME #5
VS EAST GOSFORD
May 6, 2017

At home again we hoped for a different result to last week. It was a solid effort by both teams as neither wanted to concede the first goal despite both sides having the possibility. It wasn’t until the first interchange that the ball found its way to between the posts. It was the first time where we had opened the scoring this season. The Rams did return fire and the arm wrestle continued between the sides. Come the break it was all tied up with nothing splitting the teams. As the teams returned to the field, the battle continued. It was the opposition that then took the upper hand after a few opportunities narrowly missed the target. But the team was not done and they continued to show some good passing as well foot work to move the ball around searching for the equaliser. They did eventually find it and it was looking to end in a draw as neither team seemed to be able to find that finishing strike. It was only in the dying stages that they managed to sneak one past us.

Another strong performance by the team with the skills from training starting to find their way into the game. Jake took home the award this week after continually putting his body on the line to stop the attack from East Gosford. The hit in the stomach was even felt by those on the sideline.

GAME #4
VS TERRIGAL 5
April 29, 2017

We were all excited to play our first game at home for the season, with the hope of having an advantage over a strong opponent in Terrigal. It also coincided with having the whole team available for the first time this season. Although they had a few issues in fielding a team to start the game, in short time enough had arrived for the whistle to blow. Again we were slow to start and conceded the first goal. The team found themselves crowded near the goal a lot of the time and stopped far more from going in than what should of. We had good chances and moved the ball around well but unfortunately couldn’t find the back of the net as often as we wanted to. We went to the break behind on the score sheet but the second half surge we saw last week was always possible. The team dug deep but unfortunately the opposition was too strong. Even with Luca’s stunning goal from halfway we were unable to get the upper hand.

Another great effort this week by everyone on the team. Another solid performance earned Caleb this weeks’ award. A special mention also to Jake and Luca for their sportsmanship. Both players happily volunteered to play for the opposition when they didn’t have enough players. It just highlights their desire to play the game regardless of the colours they are wearing, hats off to you boys!

GAME #3
VS SOUTHERN ETTALONG 3
April 22, 2017

Another fine Saturday allowed the team to compete in their second game of the season. It was the opposition that once again that opened the scoring in what would be the first of 16 goals scored in the match. This week however we hit straight back and levelled the score. It was an arm wrestle for the remainder of the half with plenty of ball movement around the field between the players and strong tackles. At the half time whistle Southern Ettalong held a narrow lead over us. I’m not exactly sure if it was something that our coach Lee-Anne said at the break or if someone tipped something in the water, but the team came out firing. 3 unanswered goals put us in the lead. From there may more shots were fired in from both teams. We saw some rattle the posts or narrowly miss that kept the crowd entertained. Some scrabbling and solid defence by our team though saw us hang on to the lead till the final whistle blew.

Everyone did an outstanding job and should be extremely happy with themselves. A few special mentions do go to Caleb who was great in defence at the back for the team along with getting the ball up the field. Luca ,who was unsure of getting on the field at first, showed some great footwork and skills with the ball (he also picked up this weeks award). Ollie’s goal celebration amused the sidelines more than his shot that beat 2 defenders on its way to find the back of the net.

We now look forward to playing at home for the first time this season next week.

GAME #2
VS KINCUMBER 1
April 8, 2017

With the sun finally poking its head out from the clouds 7L1 got their first kick of the ball since the grading day. All the players were keen to get on the field for a run and to learn some match play. Kincumber made the most of the early stages of the first half while the team were finding their feet, putting away 3 unanswered goals. But the team held tight and fought back to finally hit the back of the net. The second half was a closely matched affair with more goals from each side.

In the end despite a brace from Elijah, Kincumber was too good for us on this occasion. Everybody played really well and never stopped trying their hardest even when the goals were stacked against us.
