GAME #9
VS KINCUMBER (LOST 0-2)
June 4, 2017

Today the girls started the game with only 9 players, everyone put in a big effort against the opposition in the first 30 minutes, only being down 2-0. Just before halftime the cavalry arrived, all the way from wyoming. 5 girls from the U15's came to the rescue and lifted the spirits in the team.

At full time the score finished at 2_0.

A big thankyou to jess, kira, oliva, Isla and Catlin for coming along to help and a big big thanks to Nigel Mead for organizing it.

GAME #7
VS KARIONG (LOST 0-9)
May 21, 2017

Another early start at Alan Davidson Oval where despite the doom and gloom weather forecasts, the sun was out. The girls started with some good news: Caren, despite copping an ankle injury last weekend, was back; Sharon Singleton had survived her return game last weekend; and they had a new recruit in Megan Francies. This all added up to 13 players, yes 13 players, two reserves, yes 2 reserves!!

Despite another heavy scoreline, the girls started strong. Alison's tenacity for the chase was perfectly suited in her new position at the back stopping some early threats; Belinda made some great runs up the left flank and Megan impressed up front. Luck in front of goal still eludes us, the closest chance being Naomi's shot that hit the woodwork.

In the end Kariong, slogged away and had the class to find the net, even if their crowd carried-on (or is it karionged) disrespectedly as the goals mounted up. With two of the goals coming from penalties, Wyoming should take solace that the scoreline didn't reflect the effort and fight they put in today. They deserve better. Come on football gods, where are you ??

GAME #5
VS MOUNTAINS (LOST 0-14)
May 7, 2017

With only 9 players this week, the girls went down 14-0. Dana put in a great effort in goals today, saving more than what was scored. The second half was their better half putting together more passes. Well done to Chantelle, Caren, Sheryl, Keely, Kylie, Kannika, Dana, Maureen and Ngari for putting up a good fight.

GAME #4
VS DOYALSON (LOST 0-8)
April 30, 2017

Today the girls went down 8-0. As Danni was unable to play goalkeeper today, due to injury, Chantelle played there in the first half and Dana took over in the second. Both girls put in big efforts, saving several attempts to score, by the opposition.

Alison, Sheryi, Caren, Chantelle and Dana put in big efforts today. Everyone played well. A big thank you to Jess Mead and Caitlin Stewart from the, U15 girls team for helping out today.

GAME #3
VS THE ENTRANCE (DREW 1-1)
April 23, 2017

We were down 1-0 at halftime, everyone played well with Alison playing in a backline position in the first half and a forward, almost scoring in the second half. Kannika made several runs up the sideline, but was unable to put one away. With Danni playing in goals, kicked the ball to Chantelle who headed it on to Sheryl to chip the keeper, that gave us the draw in the last 5 minutes of the game. Well done to everyone for fighting back, to claim a point.

GAME #2
VS KINCUMBER (DREW 0-0)
April 9, 2017

With Alan Davidson Oval still under water, the WAA4s were transferred to East Gosford for a mid-morning clash against Kincumber. Eager to put last weekend’s heavy defeat behind them, they did just that with an amazing turn around that not only saw them pick up a competition point but also, a clean sheet. The team were boosted by the arrival of the triple K threat – Kylie, Keely and Kannika – all of whom quickly showed they were sorely missing in the last game; and the loan of Jessica Mead from the W15’s who was outstanding in the central back position – making her father proud by showing that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to some good old-fashioned shoulder bargeing. Dani returned to her preferred position as goalkeeper, keeping the Roos at bay; Caren was again a workhorse in the backs; and Sheryl pushed up this week to stamp some much needed authority into the midfield, combining particularly well with the tenacious Kannika. Unfortunately, that first goal of the season remains elusive thus far but not for lack of trying. It’ll come. A solid performance by all and surely a boost in morale.

GAME #1
VS TOUKLEY (LOST 0-17)
April 2, 2017

A week of rain and a downpour just prior to kick off wasn’t enough to stop the Womens All Age squad from getting a run at Harry Moore Oval for their first round clash against Toukley. With only 11 players available, it was soon to be a long afternoon for the girls in yellow as they battled a younger Gunners side who undoubtedly should be in a higher grade, *cough* trophy hunters *cough*.

Despite a few early shots that sailed across the goal mouth and some impressive saves by Naomi in goals, the pressure valve soon burst and Toukley were on their way with the first of a plethora of goals. The backline were under threat constantly only given reprieve here and there thanks to Toukley’s young speedsters being caught offside several times. Despite the imminence that it was going to be a heavy loss, the commitment to keep fighting was made by all (even Tea when she wasn’t having a sit down on the field). None demonstrated this better than Dani who didn’t shy away from getting into the thick of things and defending her heart out. She survived several knocks, bruises, early scolds from Sheryl (the two seemingly made up in the second half with a bit of a hug) and even managed a shot at goal that narrowly missed. Kudos also to Ngari who battled on for 80 minutes whilst battling the flu (um... no idea how she acquired that).

Chances at the attacking end unfortunately were few and far between but the effort remained. Chantelle put in some excellent through balls one of which almost connected with the tenacious Alison up front, our closest chance to finding the net.

Regardless of the demoralising result, all must be praised for remaining positive throughout. Things from here can only get better even if a submission to be dropped to a lower grade is rejected. Sharon, who is sidelined with a mcl knee tear, is thankfully out of her leg brace and likely to return to the field in a few weeks. Hopefully, the squad is bolstered with more numbers next weekend so interchange is possible (we were down to ten players on the field a few times) and fingers crossed that someone takes up the call to put on the coaching hat. A special thanks to Samantha Hardie for being the caretaker coach today and continually offering constructive support to the team from the sideline.
